Why is there so much poverty, starvation, conflict, war, and suffering in our world?

• Almost 900 million people worldwide suffer from chronic undernourishment.
• 21,000 people, 14,000 of whom are children, die every day, of hunger or hunger related causes.
• During the past century over 100 million people have been killed in wars
• Many conflicts, such as those in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, and many more, continue unabated.

The source of these problems I believe is:

• All our political, public service, financial, and religious institutions, worldwide, are dominated by a culture of selfishness, corruption, abuse of power, and greed.

And the reason for this culture is:

• The natural trait of selfishness that is innate in every human being.

So why is humanity finding it so difficult to rise above selfishness? What is preventing us from creating a world dominated by love, care, and compassion?

To answer these questions we must first look at the present scientific view of reality and understand how it influences human consciousness.
